Geansai Gorm - A Solution
As with all forms of marketing and Internet Promotion, Geansai Gorm - (Blue Jumper) will concentrate on getting visitors to your website. Without a steady stream of visitors then your website is of little use to you. So lets get to grips with this Geansai Gorm thing:
- The first thing with Geansai Gorm is that nobody knows what it stands for!
- Oh yes - we all now know Geansai Gorm means "Blue Jumper", but what does it mean in the context of optimisation?
- Well the short answer is Geansai Gorm means nothing at all in this context. Only a term selected to test the quality of the SEOC lads in Ireland - In this context the Geansai Gorm test is a good try. See the "latest news".
- However, it is a fact that most SEOC is commerce based. Geansai Gorm has no place - or very little - in blog forums and the like. How many blogs will invite advertising and banner type promotions? Very few. Like all the Geansai Gorm sites they will live for a while and then vanish down the Google mine.
- So what do we do with the Geansai Gorm promotion? Like most blogs we fill the page with junk and crass comment in order to get the keyword density up and look as though we know what we are doing and think we know what Google wants!
- Isn't it a shame that Google is unable to detect unmitigated dribble like this and put Geansai Gorm out of its misery

- Quoted from thinkstandards comment on ggwinner.com:
"It seems to me to have what it takes to win the competition.
A well constructed promotion with lots of Google friendly features and NO "Geansai Gorm" terms in ANY sub pages - so no Google pursuasion here. There are lots of nice, well grammatically composed comments although perhaps a little "spammy" in the image alt text array. Overall, I think it should be OK to win when nearly all others are disqualified. - Well done MrX."
Although the competition is not finished until Tuesday 2nd December 2008, I guess it is all over now bar the shouting [and the shouting from the bar later]. The exellent presentation by the anonymous [so far] ggwinner.com has won - or has he? Watch this space! Great Fergal! You should have won. - You might like to glance at suiomheadach.com for a chance late entry by Chris Gallagher - might win? Might vanish too. Great Irish language site, but which SEO works in Irish? There is also one page with Geansai Gorm in the file name which probably rules Chris out.
- The snag with this sort of competition is that the "first-com-first-served" syndrome. Google thinks the first up must be the standard and all who follow have great difficulty replacing it. It will change with time and I am sure that with the latest Google spidering we shall see a change on the order of results.
- Long lasting SEO takes time and patience, so competitions of short duration do not give a good result. Google values soundness and stability. So time will tell who really show who is the best SEO in Ireland - So Watch-This-Space at the end of the year!
- In the mean time, here is a bit of commercial propaganda which may be of help to many who have websites that are languishing in the long grass of the Google fairway. What you need is the right club and the tight swing to get your ball onto the fairway and as near as possible to the green. Choose the wrong SEO and you could easily find a bunker from which you may never extricate yourself unless you, proverbally, return to the tee. So choose carefully.
- Don't worry about Glob (sorry - Blog) pages, they will only missrepresent your professionalism and the visitor's confidence in your cool product or as a complete comercial service. Keep your site pages clean and honest, useful, informative and relevant. Get the SEO done properly first time - you really do have only one chance.

- Well, it is almost two weeks since the result of the competition was announced. I was wrong about the winner. I thought it would be ggwinner because there were features about his site that led me to believe that Google would lift his attempt to the top of the serps, but I was wrong. In fact the site has fallen to 7th place and looks like a further fall is due. You will find that Damien's mybluejumper is still riding well, but asgaelige.com has pipped him for a while [surprising that - I will explain later*]. Google seems to like Blog sites and sites with Youtube videos. As a commercial company, we would not suggest to our clients including any page with such a leaning. However, I am intrigued to know how this interesting exercise is to continue. There are lots of interesting features used by the competitors that each seem to have some SEO merit, although none of them have a conclusive "modus operandi" to give budding SEO Geeks a smell of how to plan an SEO campaign. Having said that, there are a few pointers, that when added together may produce a worthy technique.

- Google is not oblivious of the professional SEO who is able to advance a client's presence on the net. The hard work and patience usually pays off and that is now beginning to show by a change in position and relevance. There is always a place for the blog and "chat-page", but who really wants that as a platform for a commercial promotion or for launching a new product that has cost so much time and effort. Nobody! That is why the internet marketing professional needs patience and so does his clients. Sometimes the promotion can be a little stilted and, even boring to some, but the overall secret - if we could call it a secret - is to present the promotion site as a stable, sensible and relevant information provider. Well thought of by others and containing reasonable content formatted with good copy. Copywriters come into their own on such occasions and, although their skills may look superfluous, the effect of their professional writing skills makes an informative site heavy with importance. This is what Google likes - and why? Because this provides information that is attractive to the surfer looking for the Authority Site - the central site for the National or International topic base. No doubt the Geansai Gorm listing will change again before the year end and may take a further 3-4 weeks before stabilising and showing the "real" winner of the top Irish SEO - and I would prefer to think "The top Irish SEOs" - because there are several who could rightly attain to that accolade.

- *Well done Dara, you seem to have the main problem solved and the position seems to be getting firmer every day. Nice one! I am not convinced that the methodology is the right one though, but at least you have achieved the result and, maybe, you will stay there.

- Well here we are in the New Year. What surprises is Google going to offer us this year? How many SEO professionals will need to change their approach for 2009? What are the old techniques that do dot work the same as before? 2008 had some profound changes - U tube seems to make a mark with Google as did the blog in 2007. What about this year then? As always. "Content" is the buzzword! Focussed content and frequent additions to the opinion and data inclusions will bring reasonable results, but the Page Rank advantage is not a major player now. Good for the long term, but not the panacea as of old. A few more thoughts next week - eh?

- Never mind next week! See the Geansai Gorm Champ's home site taking a dive. Why is this? Why should this be? Is it neglect or what? It just shows that we cannot be sure of anything. Once an SEO chappy has the place too himself than the site becomes to slide a bit. The 1st Jan 2009 Geansai Gorm mods may do the trick with the next spidering, but maybe not. We shall see. Maybe the Florida sun will have an effect [if Damien remember to takes the laptop]. Hey! Wait a minute! Is there a slight discerpancy with the dates here? How come the Xmas celebration plans are only announced on the 1st January. Looks like a Geansai Gorm "False Blog Entry" after-thought to me. Enough said, but I do not think Google will notice Damien. You will probably be up with the lads again by the end of the week.
And another thing!! I see Paul's mybluejumper winning site is down. Is this Hosting365 breaking up again? It certainly look like it. The whole Hosting 365 seems to be broke [as at 18.00 03/01/09]. Didn't this happen like this last week? If so I should stick to Blacknight with your site Paul [unless I have missed a trick], or even Hosting Ireland - Ha!
- Sunday 20.30pm Hosting365 and mybluejumper up again
- 13/01/2009 Geansai Gorm update
- Google has completed its back link and page rank spidering and things have changed very little. Perhaps we will leave any comment until things settle down - OK?
- 23/01/2009 Geansai Gorm update
- It is always a fascinating thing to me as I watch Google push and pull the serps about as sites become either attractive, boring, attended to or neglected. It would seem that the arrangement of the Geansai Gorm listing has given Google a few challenges. Notably the blogsome.com Geansai Gorm sub domain has leaped into the fray! A little pointless really as the rules [as they were applied in the competition] did not allow this. Also that the blogsom.com URL has been around since 2004 so the site fails in two categories. So whatever success it has with its PR6 ranking from the main domain does not impress me.
- To be continued...
