Geansai Gorm - News and Progress:
Gaeilge Irish news Geansai Gorm News

22.11.2008 - 10 days to go.
OK Let's see how the progress of the Geansai Gorm race is going:

  1. mybluejumper.com looks to be well entrenched at the top with the front page simple title and description snippet. Well done Paul.
    1. Sub page is a great Wordpress blog with a variety of zany comment and nice pics - I liked the Putin/Bush ballet.
    2. It possible that the URL falls outside the competition rules because of Geansai in the file name, but that is up to the organisers to decide
  2. bluejumperinirish.com is a Wordpress blog with some technical comment – some useful and some useless. Like many blogs the only reason they get a goo response from google is that Google likes the interactivity. This does not always make for good reading or for valuable information to satisfy search topic requests. Commercial searchers tend to avoid them. Short title – short description and header text in snippet.
    1. Sub page looks to be invalid because of Geansai Gorm in the URL file name.
    2. Well done Damien you are obviously the man to beat, but I think you need some attention to this before December breaks.
  3. Quoted from 30/11/2008 thinkstandards comment on ggwinner.com:

"It seems to me to have what it takes to win the competition.
A well constructed promotion with lots of Google friendly features and NO "Geansai Gorm" terms in ANY sub pages - so no Google pursuasion here. There are lots of nice, well grammatically composed comments although perhaps a little "spammy" in the image alt text array. Overall, I think it should be OK to win when nearly all others are disqualified. - Well done MrX."
Although the competition is not finished until Tuesday 2nd December 2008, I guess it is all over now bar the shouting [and the shouting from the bar later]. The exellent presentation by the anonymous [so far] ggwinner.com has won - or has he? Watch this space!

  4. OK - so I got it wrong not including Geansai Gorm in the file name. I took it that the rule "The domain to rank must be a new domain. Must not contain the keywords in the domain name at all and no ccTLD domains are to be used" included this restriction when it said AT ALL. Ah well [sigh]. I will change the file name of the news page and see whether it has the effect I think it will have.
  5. 24/12/2008 update
  6. At last! A significant improvement. Patience take a bow! Little thing means a lot to Google and the conscientious addressing of the minutiae means a rich reward - if you are correct in you interpretation of what is required. We wait and see whether the small changes make the difference between "somewhere" and "nowhere".
